Role title: Farm Manager

Role responsibilities: Day to day management of the farm, including sales, processing, stock planning and husbandry of the Rainbow Trout.

Current company structure: Business owners x2, Farm Manager (yourself), full time Assistant Manager/Farm Hand, part time Fish Processor. At present, the managers partner takes on the task of invoicing and helps two days a week processing and packing fish. There is an option for this to continue if the new manager has a partner looking for a supporting role, or there is potential to employ another member of staff (to be discussed).

The farm is privately owned with a well-established customer base.  The owners have no day to day involvement in the running of the business, so there is real opportunity for the new manager to develop and improve the business.

Start date/induction period: We are looking to get the person in for a transition period from early January 24, with a prospective start date of the first of February.

Hours:

  • Monday, Wednesday – processing days – early start
  • Tuesday, Thursday – farming days
  • Friday – small amount of processing + farming

(All varied dependant on workload)

The role also requires evening/night work, and it requires you to work every other weekend.  The current Assistant Manager is flexible with weekends.  As the overall management of the Farm is the responsibility of the post holder, there is flexibility as long as all the work gets done.

Salary and benefits:  The salary is competitive and represents industry standards, with a major benefit being house offered with the role – A spacious four-bedroom, two-bathroom wooden lodge with council tax, electricity, phone and broadband included (heating oil is to be paid by the post holder).

Overview of the role:  The role takes on title of Farm Manager. This involves day to day running of the farm, sales, processing, stock planning and records. The day starts with husbandry checks and is either followed by a day’s processing and/or farming.

The role lends itself to someone who enjoys the outdoors, is hard working and looking for a role with responsibility, but also flexibility. The site produces Rainbow Trout (only) for the table market from 400g to 2kg and 90% of trade is to the London market. The company is split between two sites only a mile apart, the Manager lives on one and the Assistant on the other. The Manager is responsible for both, but the Assistant looks after morning and evening husbandry on the second farm.

Requirements:

  • Industry background, to at least Assistant Manager level
  • Physically fit
  • Experience with PKD
  • 2x references
  • Processing and packing experience
